This week the HP Performance Optimized Data Center (POD) will roll into Austin, "the live music capital of the world," for an appearance at Supercomputing '08. Energy efficiency watchers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see the HP POD, an add-on datacenter with room in its 40-foot container for up to 3,520 Intel Xeon nodes. The HP POD is designed to accommodate additional capacity needs quickly and deliver fierce levels of performance density - it is 50% more energy efficient than traditional brick-and-mortar data center build-outs. Approximately 100,000 Lithium-Ion Batteries used in Hewlett-Packard, Toshiba and Dell Notebook Computers have been recalled. Battery cells we manufactured by Sony Energy Devices Corporation, of Japan. There have been 19 reports of the batteries overheating, including 17 reports of flames/fire (10 resulting in minor property damage). Two consumers experienced minor burns.

Recently, Sony became aware of a potential issue affecting the following notebook PC models: VGN-TZ100 series, VGN-TZ200 series, VGN-TZ300 series, VGN-TZ2000 series. The issue involves a small number of units which may overheat due to a wiring problem. Sony has initiated a voluntary program to perform a free inspection and, if necessary, a repair to ensure these units meet our high quality standards.
